Llama Packing is a Family Affair
A few weeks ago, we loaded up our llamas and headed into the Beartooth Wilderness in Southwestern Montana. Brett's brother, K. and his family joined us. Hiking in the Beartooth Wilderness is as close to Heaven as a you can get--the trail is surrounded by snowy peaks, high-alpine lakes and vast fields of wildflowers. Truly an epic journey!
We had two strings of llamas--Brett leading one and the other string was alternately led by our niece and nephew. Each llama pack and saddle had been lovingly designed and sewn by Brett the previous winter. The rest of us followed behind, stopping every few minutes to snap postcard-worthy photos.
Hiking in Bear Country, we made sure to bring bear spray in our RRC Bear Spray Holster. The Holster worked great and allowed quick and easy access to our spray should we encounter a four-legged friend.
The weekend was phenomenal--delicious dutch oven dinners, swimming in mountain lakes and cousins running around camp. There was one glitch in the trip--the hatch of what seemed like a million mosquitos.
As we began hiking back to the trailhead, we began laughing: K. had found a new use for the Bear Spray Holster. In lieu of bear spray--there on his front backpack straps was a huge bottle of mosquito repellent!
